Prof.
M. Authikeshavulu Memorial Orator - 2000
- Dr.
B.V. Ramalinga Shetty, born in Davangere on 9th June
1933 in the philanthropic family of Jayalaxmamma and Virupaksha
Shetru. He grew up in this atmosphere and joined Government
Medical College Mysore to do his L.M.P in 1955 and completed
his MBBS in 1958 with a distinction and bagged the Gold
medal of the college. Later he went to United Kingdom
did his FRCS of Edinburgh and Glasgow in June 1963. During
his stay in England he developed keen interest in Paediatric
surgery and worked as a Registrar\r in Paediatric Surgery
at Royal Liver Pool Children Hospital and Royal Victoria
informary a New Castle regiontyne. During this period
he under took an Academic work on Femoral dissection and
submitted dissertation on congenuial in animal lab experiments
on Extra corporeal pump bubble oxygenated circuit as a
method for treatment of temporary cardiopulmonary insufficiency
in the new born under the guidance of Mr. J.E.S. Scott
and Prof. Dennus N. Walder.
- He
returned to Bangalore and brought in the specialty of
Paediatric Surgery in 1966 at Vanivilas Hospital, St.
Martha's and St.John's Medical College and today this
is one of the well-established specialties in this part
of the country.
- He
was the President of Surgical Society, Chairman of City
Chapter of ASI, Bangalore Paediatric Society. He has traveled
all over the world and made scientific presentation in
both National and International Conferences.
- Presently,
he is a Prof. of Paediatric surgery at B.R. Ambedkar Medical
College and Children Surgical Center and Virupaksha Hospital.
- He
is married to Saraswathi, having daughter Mythrai a well
known Bharata Natyam dancer and son Ravindranath Shetty,
a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
