THE
ASSOCIATION OF SURGEONS OF INDIA
THE NATIONAL SURGICAL QUIZ - 2000
The
Governing Council of the Association of Surgeons of India
has decided to introduce a National Surgical Quiz., Which
is to be a feature of the National (ASICON) meet every
year, commencing from this year. The quiz is open to
all Surgical Post-graduates students (both MS and DNB
candidates) only. Each team will be made up of 2 post-graduate
students. Every state chapter of the National Body is
to select its best team/s and send them to New Delhi this
year, for the grand finals scheduled for the 26th of December
2000. The winners of the quiz at the national level will
be given very attractive prizes.
For
the selection of the best team/s to represent the Karnataka
State Chapter, the state has been divided into 3 zones.
Following conduct of the surgical quiz preliminaries in
each zone, the best 2 teams from each zone will meet in
Bangalore for the state Level quiz contest. the winners
will be sent to New Delhi with all expenses being borne
by the Karnataka State Chapter of the ASI, to represent
the State at the National Level Surgical Quiz. The Zones
are :
Zone
1 : Gulbarga, Bellary, Bijapur, Belgaum & Hubli
Zone
2 : Bangalore, Tumkur & Kolar
Zone
3 : Mysore, AIMS Belur, Mangalroe, Manipal and Davangere.

PRELIMINARY
SURGICAL QUIZ FOR ZONE 2
All
Medical Colleges in Zone 2 with post graduate students
in General Surgery are INVITED to send their BEST team
of 2 members (only 2 team per Institution) for the preliminary
round of surgical quiz to be conducted on SUNDAY
17th SEPT, 2000 at 10.00 AM at The Conference Hall,
St. Martha's Hospital, Bangalore - 560 001.
There
will be an initial written round of quiz for all the
teams, and the best 5 teams will then have 7 to 10 rounds
of oral quizzing, with questions covering aspects of
basic sciences, principles of surgery, clinical surgery,
history of surgery, surgical trivia, etc. The 2 best
teams will then represent the zone at the state level
quiz scheduled for 1st Oct. 2000 at Bangalore.
Institutions
participating in the quiz may kindly inform the undersigned
by 31st Aug. 2000 of their team details, to help us
conduct the quiz. Awaiting your response,

APPEAL
The
Election for the President Elect and Members of the Governing
Council and Indian Journal of Surgery of the Association
of Surgeons of India has been announced. All the Members
are requested to Franchise their vote without fail.
The
Annual Conference of the A.S.I will be held at New Delhi
from December 26th to 30th. Those interested in taking
part in the Scientific Programme may send the abstract
to the secretary of the association at Chennai. A large
contigent of surgeons will visit New Delhi along with
our National President dr. Shekar. If you have not decided
yet please register yourself and join the party.

Seminar and Workshop on Post - Graduate Surgical Education
was held recently at Bangalore.The Meeting was inaugurated
by Dr. Chandrashekara Shetty,Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi
University of Health Sciences. |

SURGEONS AT THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE
With
increasing globalization occurring in every aspect of
our life it is not surprising that more and more Doctors
are taking part in the International Meetings. Dr. GopinathK.S.,
Dr. R.P. Deo, Dr. Ashok Shenoy, Dr. Raghavan, Surgical
Oncologists attended 5th International Conference of
Head & Neck Cancers at Sanfransisco, USA. Dr. M.G.
Bhat, Sr. Srimurthy and Dr. Ramesh attended the Annual
Conference of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Society of
Asia (ELSA) held at Singapore. Dr. Bhagawan adn Dr.
Thripati went to Philippines to attend Asia Pacific
Meeting of Vascular Surgery.

Desai,Doyan of Surgical Oncology from Tata Memorial
Hospital, Mumbai on Friday 29th of June at Hotel Ashoka
